In The Gods and Symbols of Ancient Mexico and the Maya nearly 300 entries, from accession to yoke, describe the main gods and symbols of the Olmecs, Zapotecs, Maya, Teotihuacanos, Mixtecs, Toltecs, and Aztecs. Sophia runs her errands and makes house calls with her neighbors, but all the while she can’t help wondering about the lock of hair…. ![]() But Sophia’s blissful ignorance is shattered one morning when she opens a drawer in her vanity to reveal an unfamiliar hairbrush and a lock of another woman’s hair. She never even dreams of going into the locked basement that her husband has explicitly forbidden her from entering. Sophia is living a perfect life with the perfect husband in their perfect little suburban community known as Arcadia Gardens. Comfort Me with Apples, which came out just last week, is a bite-size horror novella that packs quite a punch for its small size. But her latest book takes quite a different approach, obscuring exactly which story it is retelling until the very end. For the most part, the people who produced the movie present us with a gripping story that is all the better for the cinematography and score. I am not a big Poirot fan (as was the case with Christie herself) and I have no problem with Suchet's portrayal. For better or worse,Suchet plays Poirot in the manner we have grown used to. Tim Curry brings the husband to life in a way that is also not usually found in the pages of Christie's books. This comes to us mostly from the lips of other characters as we see little of the lady before she is killed. It is not unusual for a Christie victim to be unlikeable, but the victim here is particularly evil. ![]() It's been years since I've read this book but Christie's characters tend to be quite one dimensional and for the most part, the actors do enough with the characters to keep us interested. As for the story itself, it is obvious that the book has been enhanced. The blazing heat of the Middle East desert has never looked so good. Roam by 4x4 through Jordan’s Wadi Rum, watching the sun set over red-hued stone outcroppings and dining like Bedouins beneath desert stars. Explore Petra, the ancient desert city in Jordan carved into solid rock, viewing its famed, pillared Treasury and learning its myriad secrets. Storyteller Jinji passed just over 10 months ago at the hands of a powerful demon, not lonly losing his life, but the worlds magic. I like these kraken and the humans who complete them. Actually joining with her? Well, that would be the second step. Proving that he can provide for Rhea and her daughter is his first step into fully joining the kraken. He has no real purpose and he knows too much for the kraken to let him go. On Randall's side, he's sort of drifting now that he's no longer a hunter. Like, I said, there's dissension in the ranks and Rhea choosing Randall doesn't help that tension in the least. ![]() ![]() She has no idea how to court a human male since female kraken don't court and, as one of the rare females of her kind, the fact that she's choosing a human over a kraken isn't looked upon well by some. Randall's sudden introduction to their group and seeing how both Jax and Arkon have found the thing she didn't know she wanted leaves Rhea in an odd situation. Like Jax and Arkon, Rhea has been quietly accepting her loneliness. On the other hand, we also got to see more of the tension dividing the kraken clan and, hoo-boy, I don't think that's going to end well.īut let's talk about Rhea and Randall. This story lets us see the female kraken's side of things when it comes to getting involved in a relationship with a human. ![]() ![]() ![]() Garrett Leigh is an award-winning British romance author and artist. ![]() Includes short stories from Misfits, Slide, Strays, What Remains, Dream, and much more.
